Next Generation Sequencing Software Development jobs in Oxford and Computational Biologist vacancies in Oxfordshire.  Zest Scientific Recruitment is partnered with a leader in the provision of Molecular Medicine to find a Computational Biologist who will be tasked to contribute towards Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) software development as well as maintaining and developing the current code base.

 

The Computational Biologist will be based at my clients Oxford facility responsible for developing and maintaining NGS pipelines which will include performing regression testing of new releases of pipeline components and validation of new methodologies and components.  The successful candidate will contribute to sustainability of software within Computational Biology by providing documentation both within code and as internal resources.

 

This represents an outstanding opportunity to join an expanding business which has recently added new commercial functions to the group.  This opportunity would ideally suit a candidate with a background in Computational Biology / Bioinformatics coupled with a good understanding of Molecular Biology.  The ideal candidate will have experience with NGS data and common tools such as IGV, BWA, Tuxedo Suite etc.  Applicants will also need to demonstrate good programming skills, Perl or Python is essential (BioPerl / BioPyton is desirable) and you will need to demonstrate shell scripting skills. 

 

It would be beneficial if candidates have experience handling large data sets; experience with virtualization of machines (VirtualBox); and have experience running cloud based virtual machines (Amazon EC2/Azure).

 

The successful candidate will be well versed working as part of a team so will need to demonstrate good communication skills coupled with an ability to work towards a common goal.  The Computational Biologist will work towards commercial objectives and should be comfortable delivering key milestones in line with pre agreed timeframes.
