We are aiming to identify a highly knowledgeable Ecotoxicologist for a progressive organisation in the Midlands. The Head of Ecotoxicology will have overall responsibility for the Aquatic Ecotoxicology section of the business, overseeing a skilled team of ecotoxicology professionals.

The Head of Ecotoxicology will be directly responsible for all aspects concerning scientific conduct, client liaison, expenditure, revenues, staff recruitment, training and assessment, and compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and the Control of Substance Hazardous to Health (COSHH).  To provide scientific advice on ecotoxicology and technical assistance within and outside the Company

Job responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring the aquatic ecotoxicology and biodegradation work is conducted safely following company and departmental Health & Safety guidelines.
  • Manage forecasting and revenue recognition.
  • Take responsibility for the control of costs.
  • Represent the company at scientific meetings and act as the primary scientific expert on aquatic ecotoxicology and biodegradation during Sponsor and Regulatory visits
  • Monitor and maintain metrics associated with management of studies.
  • Take the lead in staff selection, promotions and appraisal procedures as necessary, ensuring company objectives are met.
  • Make proposals for staffing levels.
  • Responsible for setting departmental objectives, goals and timelines in consultation with divisional management.
  • Review current working practices and identify/implement new methodologies and processes to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Provide technical advice and training to staff as requested.
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of scientific and regulatory developments for aquatic ecotoxicology and biodegradation, and ensure that the services provided meet world-wide regulatory compliance, test   guidelines and internationally recognised quality standards.

Candidate specification:

  • Extensive Ecotoxicology experience
  • A current or previous management role
  • Aquatic Ecotoxicology experience is a strong preference, however Terrestrial Ecotoxicology would also be of interest
